The Great Fatsby (Leslie West). Leslie had a substantial influence on a host of young rock guitarists--myself included. Eddie Van Halen took from Leslie, tone, attack and phrasing--but very few got his feeling. A mixture of Cream era Clapton, with a healthy dose of Albert King. It was that bluesy expressiveness in his playing, coupled with a mountainous tone that made him unique.
Leslie was recently rushed to the hospital after complaining about a pain in his right leg. Unfortunately, the leg had to be amputated up to the knee due to complications from diabetes. Thankfully he appears to be doing well and his condition has been upgraded from serious to good. Our prayers are with you brother.
