In the News and on the Web

From Reason TV - Occupy Wall Street Rally                          An Eye for an Eye, or revenge?

I empathize with many leftist causes, at least in principal.  Principal however, is an abstraction, and is more about good intentions than reason or justice, economic or otherwise. Too often they are assumed to be one and the same. Progressives tend to believe that enlightened government is the solution. Unfortunately, enlightened government absent an enlightened electorate simply gives power to what is already the most powerful institution on earth.  And there’s very little reason to believe that government, once it has increased in size and power tends towards benevolence.  Quite the contrary, all of the evidence points in the opposite direction.  This is eqully a problem for conservatives.  They simply have their own vision of big government.  If you want to be free, you have to be politically aware and active, if not, you’ll be inclined to demand that government go and get you your freedom—In which case you won’t be free for very long.

Real justice is blind. That seems forgotten in a politically or racially polarized environment. And lets make something clear, you can't make up for past injustices by creating new injustices. The only thing that will have changed is who holds the power. That isn't an eye for an eye, its revenge, pure and simple!

Were child labor  laws a progressive movement?            So, you want to own a record!

The various checks and balances that are built into the American system of government are intended to inhibit the accumulation of power by any one sector. Both Republicans and Democrats love it when it reinforces their particular vision and hate it when it doesn’t. President Obama wants to impose health care as a mandate. Liberals seem incapable of recognizing that forcing everyone to buy healthcare doesn’t make it free. Any more than forcing them to buy auto insurance makes it free. Why not do the same thing with housing, food and every other commodity that people want or need? That way everything would be free. Dang, I bet they never thought of that one!
So, you want to own a used record store? Check this out! It’s exactly why the vision of a benevolent government is more often than not a delusion. It’s why business and government are frequently like oil and water. And why government does more to impede job growth than it does to create it.
