I Totally Agree With Myself
When Chris Matthews said with amazement that Barack Obama seemed to really understand the issues, way back, before Obama was even the president, he really meant that he and Obama thought alike. In other words, he was indirectly saying that he was wise, therefore, Obama must be wise. Much of the media ratified this statement. Like Matthews, they were in awe of Barack's tendency to be so agreeable with their own ideological tendencies. Finally, they had a man who thought like they thought. Meaning, their celebration of him was actually a celebration of them. To acknowledge his failures then, would be to acknowledge their own. So, rather than face the enemy in the mirror, they doubled down and protected him, regardless of how badly he stumbled.
From this perspective, the president could never be malicious in his intent. He could only be mistaken. He could never act with an arrogant disregard for the facts. Because he was a man of conviction. Obamacare couldn't be a costly, unworkable albatross. It was simply in need of a good tweaking. Even now, when Obamacare is beginning to look more like a trojan horse who's real intent is to drive the insurance companies out of the healthcare business, no problem! Because a single-payer system, based on the horribly failed VA model is waiting, just around the corner. Besides, the media never really reported the Veteran's Administration scandal and its willful lies to sick, elderly war veterans in need of treatment. And, if some died, oh well. A few eggs must always be sacrificed in the making of a good omelette. Meaning, whatever they chose not to report, didn't happen. Except, maybe, to FOX News, who could always be dismissed as right wing lunatics. That was the only defense that was needed.
So, how do you fix a country drowning in nearly 20 trillion dollars of debt? How do you fix a healthcare system that kills jobs and people? How do you get past the constant race baiting and bigotry that's been given a new lease on life and fractured the nation into ever diminishing racial, sexual and cultural tribes? Hell, that doesn't even begin to deal with our new policy of open borders, which everyone acknowledges, or no one acknowledges, depending on the day or political necessity.
I could go on. But I won't. Except to say, God help the next president. Especially, if it's Donald Trump. Or even Ted Cruz. Having said that, God help the nation even more-so if it's Hillary.
You can almost hear the buzz of locust wings and watch the sky as it darkens, if only metaphorically. The reality, however, will be coming soon enough.
