The Demise of the 4th Estate

Picture
Did former FBI director James Comey ask for more resources to investigate the Trump/Putin connection two days before president Trump fired him? The New York Times says “Yes.” But they offer only an unnamed source, as the basis for the allegation. The Times story was then picked up by a variety of major news outlets and repeated again and again, creating a single, unchallenged story arc.

Finally, a reporter from CNN actually did their job and asked the Justice dept. if the story was true. A “Named” source, Sarah Flores, said the allegation was 100% UNTRUE. This did not stop the press, however, because they’d latched onto one-hell-of-a marketable story, which translates into money. Whether the story is true, doesn’t matter. Because it could be true. The important thing is, it sells, and that means big money from advertisers. It also helps that there are literally no republicans among the 70 plus members of the white house press corp.

Does this mean that liberals have a virtual monopoly on the media? Almost. Given the relentless attacks on Fox News, a virtual monopoly is within the Left’s grasp, as is already the case in universities and in K thru 12 public education.

Of course, the press will challenge this notion, by saying that a fair number of the white house press corp are registered as independents. Even so, there are zero republicans. As far as the independence of the press is concerned, you need only read the tweets and personal opinions of the various press members, to know what their affiliations truly are.

It should be obvious enough that this isn’t the press of a different time, or even 20 years ago. The reporters are younger. This is an effort to capture the lucrative, internet-savvy, youth market. They function more like gossip columnists, than objective members of the 4th Estate. For instance, I read a Newsweek article today that offered a stream of personal opinion about Trump’s alleged Russia ties, filled with incriminating accusations about spies and money laundering. But no actual evidence, beyond the reporters opinion. This was not offered as an opinion piece, however, it was offered as objective news.

Here’s a verifiable truth; two of the biggest and most influential newspapers on earth are currently controlled by Carlos Slim, the Mexican national, who was the richest man in the world a few years back, with a net worth of $51 billion dollars—and Jeff Bezos—the 3rd richest man in the world, with a net worth of $81 billion dollars. Slim is the prime shareholder for The New York Times, while Bezos owns The Washington Post. Both men are open borders advocates and globalists. Both men also control a number of other media outlets; including TV and print media—and both were major supporters of Hillary Clinton.
