Roadhouse -The Reboot
As usual, Hollywood can't leave well enough alone. They're set to remake "Roadhouse" the Patrick Swayze ass-kicking classic, which is good. But, it's going to feature a woman in the lead. The woman in question isn't just any woman, it's Rhonda Rousey. In real life, she could've beaten Swayze senseless, with little effort. This, however, is not real life, it's a damned movie, and that's the difference. You see, men have fantasies about women, just not about women who could kill them in a fight, at least, most men don't. They want to be able to project themselves into the film, and they do this by being able to identify with the male lead.
Now, I realize that some men may be able to identify with a woman in that role, Bruce Jenner, maybe, but that's not close to being most men. By putting a woman in the lead, even one like Rousey, whom I admire, they undermine the very audience for this kind of film, which is men and men and men again, young and old alike.
So, Hollywood, take all this genre-busting, politically correct nonsense and shove it.
I'm not suggesting that I won't see it, mind you. I probably will. Hell, it might even be good, but I hope not because I'm an old-school guy who likes his violence the way it's supposed to be with men doing the violence and woman being the love interest. And, if you don't like it, it's too damned bad.
On the other hand, if you're Rhonda Rousey, I apologize profusely and never mind.
