Welcome To America
Imagine, tens of thousands of children and teenagers attempting to cross a distance comparable to that from New York to Florida. Not wealthy, chaperoned kids, but dirt-poor kids making a trek across a hostile terrain without money. It is a powerful image that compels sympathy. It is also a calculated fabrication.
Why are so many "children" crossing our border, coming in by the tens of thousands?
In 2012, President Obama gave an “Executive Order” stating, “If you are under the age of 16 and were in the country illegally, you won't be deported.” What was his reasoning? “Children pose no threat to U.S. security.” That was almost exactly two years ago.
What did our president think would happen when he passed the law? And, why did he bypass Congress and use his executive privilege to do so? It is Congress that makes law, not the president. He certainly didn't believe that kids would fly in from Russia or Botswana unaided. He knew that migration from our neighbors in Mexico and Central and South America would be the only way children under the age of sixteen could come, unaccompanied by an adult. The result; they are coming in unprecedented numbers. And, it's only the beginning.
It's possible that the president never intended to trigger a mass migration, since his executive order was meant for illegal immigrants who were already living here. Not those on their way. It appears, however, that the specifics were lost in translation. What is almost certain is that a push to grant amnesty to the 15 to 20 million illegal immigrants currently living and working in the U.S. sent the wrong message. The ambiguities of the 2012 executive order, along with a move by progressives to demonize the use of the term "illegal immigrant" as well as limiting the ability of border patrol agents to effectively do their job, was sufficient to do the rest.
The media has tried to suggest that “children” are coming from Guatemala to escape war and the murderous drug cartels. This is the reason "uniformly" given by all of those crossing. It is, no doubt, partly true. Unfortunately, it doesn't begin to tell the real story.
There is virtually no border enforcement at the Guatemalan/Mexican border. Guatemalans can simply cross the river into Mexico without being questioned. It wasn't always this way, though. Mexico carefully guards it's borders from it's Southern neighbors, in particular Guatemala and Belize. They recently changed their policy to allow children seeking to migrate to the U.S. to travel freely through Mexico. In fact, as long as they weren't attempting to stay, they were given aid and transportation by train directly to the U.S. border.
How did this happen? By agreement between Guatemala’s President Otto Perez Molina and Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto. What role did the Obama Administration play in facilitating this mass migration? The above mentioned “Executive Order” was the open door, young Guatemalans and Mexicans simply walked through, aided by their countries leaders—and ours.
Is this a humanitarian crisis? Absolutely! It is also a cold, calculated effort to flood the U.S. with illegal immigrants. If it isn't that, it is simply one more stunning miscalculation by our president. I don't believe it to be the latter.
That is why the president hasn't gone to the border and has stalled any real action by making a request to congress for more money—all while our border patrol has essentially been told to “Stand Down!” He knows that it will lead to a political fight between himself and the Republicans in Congress. Enabling him to lay the blame on the Republicans for not doing anything about America's border. If that fails, he can claim that Republicans are killing poor immigrant children by their inaction. The majority of the media will blame Bush, as they already have, claiming that some law passed 7 or 8 years ago is the culprit. Apparently, there was a lengthy pause between the law in question and the present mass migration.
What will the effect be of flooding the nation with so many poor, uneducated immigrants? Many will come with serious medical issues, placing pressure on our barely functioning healthcare system. Lower wages are inevitable as more people compete for fewer jobs, especially at the low end of the economic scale. There will be even more demand upon food stamps, our schools, and certainly, our legal system. And it's only the beginning.
There are other problems, most of those migrating have no identification, which makes verifying their age impossible. What we're seeing through the media is images of young children. I have serious doubts that the primary demographic is 4 and 5 year old's. The age range is probably more likely to be teenagers, and young adults, passing as teenagers. How do we know that most don't have even basic forms of identification? The TSA is letting them board planes without verifiable identification, something that no American or any other foreign traveler could normally do.
What is the solution for America as a nation? Ask the president! After all, it was his “Executive Order” that set it all in motion. I'm inclined to believe, however, that no answer will be forthcoming. Congress needs to act to deal with those who are already here. Then, close the loopholes in the law and vigorously enforce the border. Finally, they need to send a clear, unequivocal message to our neighbors to the South that if they continue to facilitate illegal immigration, all financial aid will come to a screeching halt—and no one will be given a pass, no matter the circumstance. Do I think the president will do that? Not on your life! He will do what he's best at, create chaos and use every trick in the book to stall any real change, except the change he wants. If Americans have to suffer, oh well, transforming a nation is no easy task. It takes planning, long range goals and a gift for a sleight of hand. It also takes willing accomplices—and he has plenty of those, both in his own party and politically-entrenched Republicans—and by the mainstream media. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
