"Shut the Hell Up!"
Sometimes I just want yell “Shut the hell up!” I’m sure that I’m not alone. Who do I think should shut up? Everybody that I don’t agree with. Everybody else is free to talk. That’s how human nature actually works. The minute thoughts and ideas transgress the artificial boundary in my brain, I feel an adrenaline rush and a desire to defend my intellectual territory like a snarling dog in defense of a tasty bone. That’s when I want to shout “Shut the hell up!” But I don’t. Instead, I write. Which, for some, may be even more annoying.
This morning Trump’s crude statements are everywhere in the news, while partisans and allies attack one another in defense of their candidate. “What’s worse,” they argue, “Trump’s crude schoolboy talk or Hillary’s defense of Bill’s multiple molestations and rape charges. From fellow democrats, no less! How about Bill Clinton lying under oath, which led to his impeachment and disbarment?”
It is a dark day in American politics. It may also end up being one of the most honest elections we’ve ever had.
Reality looks more like this; vice president Joe Biden is a lecherous old coot, who was also a multiple time plagiarist.
“A what?” Someone might ask. Uncle Joe stole people’s ideas and used them in his speeches, never giving a nod to his source. He did this as a young man and, as an old one. This was also true of Martin Luther King, a man who’s as close to a modern saint as exists in contemporary life. King was likewise a serial adulterer, which has become a commonly known fact, although no one on MLK’s holiday brings it up. Nor do they teach it in schools.
JFK’s father made his fortune running illegal booze, which would be the equivalent of a drug dealer in his day. He then used his wealth to get his son John, elected as a senator and then as president, even though John had very little real experience. Old man Kennedy did this by using the mob to stuff ballot boxes and win a very, very narrow election over Richard Nixon, who would later go on to win the presidency and then be disgraced and forced to retire for multiple illegal activities.
.
King David was possibly the worst offender. An adulterer and murderer, he was a warrior who used his allies to serve his cause and then turned on them and killed them. David had so much blood on his hands that, according to scripture, God would not allow David—who was the apparent apple of God’s eye—to build his temple. That was left to David's bastard son, Solomon.
On a more contemporary note; Barack Obama’s history is so shady and problematic that it took a global press corps to keep his affiliations and secrets on the lowdown. Watch as the mainstream media scream in unison “Shut the hell up! You racist bastard!” Should anyone transgress their artificial line in the sand, thereby collectively protecting their Obama flavored dogma from harsh scrutiny
Are these excuses for Trump?
I never, ever thought Trump was a man of high, individual, moral character to begin with. So, for me, at least, the answer is no.
What I do know, is that in the scheme of things, when compared to Hillary’s crimes (and they are many) Trump is simply one more, in a long line of flawed men to seek office. Whether he is the right man for the job, is a different question.
Here’s a simpler question; would I rather go into battle with a morally flawed commander who will win the victory and keep his men safe—or, a man of high moral standing, who very well may get his troops killed? That’s why King David’s many flaws did not get in the way of his building God’s earthly kingdom and serving God’s purpose. It is why Martin Luther King succeeded, in spite of his moral flaws. Weren’t churches filled with men who weren’t adulterers, who could’ve been used, instead of King? “If so, where were they?” I might ask. “Nowhere to be found.” Is the answer.
In the real world, sometimes you take what you can get. And sometimes, to our surprise, that is exactly what’s needed. That is my hope, at least. In the end, it is certainly better than the alternative.
