Why I Hate, Hate Crimes
"Why I Hate, Hate Crimes"
Bigots run-amok in America. Around the world, bigots are busy running here and there, working for newspapers, in TV, at the movies, everywhere humans congregate, bigots can be found. Bigots are especially prevalent when it comes to hate crimes.
Did you know that Hate Crimes are up, way up, since 2016? “Hmm?” What happened that year, I wonder? Could it be that Donald Trump became president?
“Yes!” That is what happened.
Is there a correlation?
Does anyone really need to ask?
Yes, in all such cases, when dealing with Trump and Hate, correlation is always causation. In other words, take 2 events, link them together, and “Voila,” you’ve found your answer.
Of course, the sun also rose and set in 2016, flowers bloomed, people drove cars, dogs had puppies, etc... But, let's be clear, puppies are not racists. Trump supporters, on the other hand, are, according to an eager press, who eagerly pursue hate. Otherwise, how do we explain this obvious correlation, if not for those 60,000,000 hate-filled Americans who voted for America’s “Racist and Chief?”
Here’s another obvious case of correlation and causation: over the previous 8 years—2008 to 2016—hate crimes fell, with one exception. In 2008 hate crimes sparked upward, way up. Not surprisingly, 2008 also happened to be the year Barack Obama became president. However, from 2009 forward, until 2016, hate crimes fell fairly significantly. Again, what is the correlation? The presidency of Barack Obama? Puppies can’t be used to explain this vicious jump in hate and its inevitable decline. Only Obama is the cause and the correlation between the two. Which should be as obvious as a booger at the salad bar, (and no...I’m not comparing Obama to a booger.)
These hate crime stats have been used relentlessly by a press that appears eager to find hate. But only as long as that hate points in the right direction. Not because they’re bigots, mind you, but, because they hate, hate. There’s just one problem, the 17% increase in hate crimes—which amounts to about 1000 additional hate crimes, following the election of Donald Trump—also correlates to an additional 1000 police departments, who are now reporting hate crimes. Simply put, the number of hate crimes didn’t increase, the number of police departments reporting hate crimes did. So much for the correlation between President Trump and Hate.
Do I expect the haters of hate to say “Never mind.”
No. I expect them to double down, searching for correlation and causation like rabid weasels. “There it is!” they’ll say. “Donald Trump ate a pecan log. And everybody knows that pecans come from Georgia, which is in the South, where bigots live. This correlates perfectly with an increase in global temperatures of one billionth of a degree, which Trump supporters deny, which proves they’re bigots, causing global warming.
"Yeah! That’s the ticket!”
For every 20 articles written by mainstream press outlets, loudly decrying the increase in hate crimes during the Trump era—maybe, one, single, less-than-mainstream outlet, broke the numbers down—explaining what was really happening. Demonstrating, clearly enough, that it wasn’t an increase in hate crimes, but it sure-as-hell was an increase in hate crime reporting, indicating where most of the hate is actually coming from.
Do I think that will change?
Not a chance.
