Surviving Politics
I have tried to refrain from writing on Facebook about the Trump/Putin meeting. Why should I? There is so much disinformation, so many relentlessly childish opinions, that no response could possibly encapsulate it all, or even begin to. Having said that, most of the disinformation is just a reflection of what’s going on in the press, as one media-idiot after another offers proof of Trump/Russian collusion, which is itself a dangerous and childish, media-fed delusion.
Here are the facts: President Trump did exactly what every president has done for a hundred years, he met with his Russian counterpart, in an effort to reign in the possibility of nuclear war. The Russians are weak in every way, except, in terms of nuclear weapons. In that way, they’re a very real global threat. American presidents—every last damned one—did this when the Russians were far more powerful and militaristic than they are today. What’s supposed to be different, is the Russians meddled in our election. Of course, the Russians have been meddling in our elections for a century, as we have in theirs. In fact, the U.S. has meddled in literally dozens of elections around the world, helped rig elections, engaged in assassinations and attempted assassinations, all of which is well-documented. So a bit of Russian meddling isn’t news, except to the people who’ve only recently begun to pay attention. It’s these folks who are the target of the disinformation campaign being waged by “The Deep State.” And yes, “The Deep State” exists. Which again, is news to no one, except the newly concerned folk who’ve only recently begun to follow politics. Go talk to any good Leftist older than 50 and they’ll laugh at any suggestion to the contrary, regarding The Deep State’s role in global politics.
What President Trump did that was unprecedented, is that he ignored the media hysteria and acted like an adult who understands what’s at stake. Meanwhile, the bulk of the press run screaming like chicken little about the sky falling, in a way that’s so ridiculous, no amount of shame can do it justice.
The big takeaway about those 12 Russians singled out by Deep State tool, Robert Mueller, was that they had no effect on the election. And, that no American, including President Trump, was involved. Although, the media buried that part of the story in the 3rd paragraph of their reporting about Russian collusion, in the hopes that Americans would read between the lines and miss the obvious. Which, apparently, many did.
Like stories about children in cages, or Trump’s White supremest tendencies, about illegal immigration, which is really about cheap labor, the lies and disinformation run as deep as the The Deep State. Meaning, Americans might want to read some actual Cold War history, written before Obama and Trump, and stop being a bunch of unintentional tools, acting on behalf of some Deep State Svengali. Set aside all that manufactured anger, the outrage based on lies, in the hopes that our culture might survive—not Donald Trump—but “You,” The People. If America can survive that, it can likely survive anything.
