Propaganda in the face of a tragedy needs to be looked at very carefully. The media keeps printing stories like "17th school shootings so far this year!" With a little effort, however, you find that they qualify any discharging of a gun on campus as a school shooting, even when no one was hurt or targeted. This also includes suicides. Suicide by gun is 6th on the list of methods used when a person takes their own life. That is nationwide.
In other instances, gang violence, which is rampant in places like Chicago (the President's home town) are included in statistics for mass shootings, driving up the number of such cases to 45. No clarification is given here because the number sounds so damning without a context.
The president then says that "Cities with stringent gun laws have fewer mass shootings" in this particular instance he carefully leaves out gang violence and other related criminal activity, which is where the overwhelming amount (about 99%) of gun violence actually comes from.
In other words, statistics are used to serve a political agenda or drive a news cycle, not tell the truth. Mass shootings are a horror regardless, of course, but most of the proposals for gun control would have no impact on actual gun-related crime. That is the simple truth, without the bullshit.
