"Evil Republicans Suppress Minority Vote!"
"Evil Republicans Suppress The Minority Vote"
CBS News says that “Republican voter ID laws may suppress the minority voter turnout!” They could've just as easily written, “Evil Republicans Intentionally Suppress The Minority Vote,” since that was the obvious intent behind the piece.
Here’s the truth: Republicans are demanding that voters have an ID with a valid address in order to vote, the very thing that Democrats demanded (and more) just a decade ago. In fact, Democrats demanded multiple ID’s, with addresses, expressly, to protect against voter fraud.
But that was then. This is now.
As evidence of this Republican conspiracy to suppress minority votes, CBS offered N. Dakota, as an example. N. Dakota has a population just shy of 800,000 people. Of that number, 19,000 are Native Americans, living on the reservation, where homes may not have a traditional street address. Or, around 2% of N. Dakota’s total population. Of that 2%, or 19,000, maybe half are of voting age since children can’t vote. Not yet, at least. That’s about 1% of N. Dakota’s total population. There is another factor, though. About half of voting age Americans don’t vote at all. Those numbers change a bit, from cycle to cycle, but not much. The rate at which native Americans fail to vote is between 5% to 14% lower than the average, yet again. Meaning that approx. 1/2 of 1% of N. Dakota’s population, which represents voting age Native Americans, is more realistically about 1/3 of 1%.
Maybe.
CBS, nonetheless, sees this as a potential disaster, negating the votes of thousands of “People of Color” living in the state. Who never, in their whole lives, were able to get a basic ID, like a drivers license or a social security card.
The lone answer, for all the above problems, is predictably the same, racism and disenfranchisement by White’s against minorities. Some unintentionally, but mostly not. The race card has been expanded to “The Gender Card,” “The Ethnicity Card,” “The I’m Not White Card.” And, the “White’s Must Be Responsible For All My Problems Card.” This is the new version of “The Devil Made Me Do It!” An all-purpose explanation for why there are differences between groups, and why some groups can never be held responsible for their own actions. To do otherwise endangers their fidelity to The Democratic Party, even as it drives a wedge between the minority and the majority populations. No price is too big to pay, especially, when it comes to politics.
All of this nonsense was treated very differently when it was the Democrats who demanded not only one ID, but a second, with...get this... a picture, way back in 2004. No one said a word about voter suppression then. Like silent dormice, this was justice, when it served their ends. Only to become unjust, when it no longer did.
You’ll find the same rhetoric by the Democrats, regarding African Americans. Who, allegedly, are so disenfranchised that many can’t get an ID. "Ever!" Even though, they’re the richest people of African descent on earth. For the Democrats, America is still 1950’s Alabama. There was never a civil rights movement. And little progress, if any, has been made in our hate-filled, racist country. In spite of all the evidence to the contrary. That’s what CBS is suggesting. That’s what the Democrats are suggesting. Not very cleverly, mind you. But you don’t really have to be clever when you have true believers, who will believe just about anything, when it comes to politics.
And people say the mainstream press is objective…..
"Yeah...right!"
