A Lie Is As God As The Truth.... as long as it's a good lie
A Lie Is As Good As The Truth”...as long as it’s a good lie.
"Why would a woman lie about something like rape?” the media asked, in near unison voice. The question was framed in such a way as to imply that the anyone seriously questioning the veracity of women, had to be a fool, a stooge, an immoral reprobate….a Republican. Reasoning as a single-minded organism, the press seemed to be saying that even asking the question was ridiculous, like someone asking whether the sun actually rises in the east and sets in the west.
“No one in their right minds could believe such a thing! Could they?” the media proclaimed.
There was just one problem, the sun doesn’t rise in the east. And it doesn’t set in the west, either. In fact, it doesn’t rise and set at all.
To which the media responded “Huh?”
The earth revolves around the sun, creating the illusion of a rising, setting sun. But it’s just an illusion. Likewise, the idea that women would never lie about rape had no basis in reality, since there were dozens of high profile cases, available to anyone who could read, riddled throughout history, across continents, so abundant that the incredulity with which the question was framed was nothing, if not incredible. Regardless, the media tried desperately to pretend the question was rational. That’s because it was political. And no lie is too big when it serves a political end.
Just the other day, another accuser of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, (a woman,) the third, possibly the fourth, was being referred for criminal prosecution by Congress. She’s now admitted that she lied, as did the other accusers, including Christine Ford. Thus, disproving the theory that women would never, ever lie about rape. This is the only reasonable conclusion that could be drawn, since there wasn’t a single witness to corroborate her story, including all the witnesses Ms. Ford offered to support her allegation. That would also be the only rational conclusion of scientists using science, or jurors using reason. But this is politics. And politics is as scummy a business as humans have concocted, where no lie is too big, no tactic too dirty.
Not surprisingly, once these fantastic tales of woe were no longer politically useful, they faded from sight, and people went about pretending they’d never said such things. Even though, they were said publicly, in full view of the whole world. This, however, did not stop the politicians or their allies in the media, who simply shouted “On to the next lie!” moving like a mindless herd, waiting for direction.
You’d think that, maybe, self-reflection might come into play, sometime, somewhere, but it seldom ever does. The lies are just too good, enabling us to believe that even the dumbest lie might have some grain of truth.
That’s politics.
That’s human nature.
In a world of liars, nothing more is needed.
