A Close Shave With The Well-Intended Bigot

A Close Shave With The Well-Intended Bigot

If I said “Women need to stop being conniving harlots, hellbent on destroying men and taking their money,” women would rightly be outraged. Even though, there is some truth in it. How much truth? About as much truth as is in the recent Gillette ad everyone’s talking about. Maybe more.

This last statement will elicit even more outrage.

But, of course, that outrage won’t stop it from being true. Which will, yet again, elicit sound and fury, as people, both male and female, (plus an assortment of others,) cite only those selective "Facts" that make them feel good, regarding heinous male activities and female victim-hood, painting reality with a brush so broad that no well-healed broad or chick, dude or bro, could tolerate. Not without imploding from rage.

This, let me stress, is exactly what you’d expect from a Klan member or Nazi, who was given a forum for their ignorance. Meaning, forget nuance, forget subtlety, and rip away with selective accusations and generalizations, based on specious gender studies and collective media nonsense. Because this is how bigots are empowered. And, unless you’re willing to look beyond those selective facts and challenge your carefully circumscribed opinion….you are most certainly a bigot.

As Stan “The Man” Lee” used to say “Nuff said.”

But this is a given, or it should be. In the real world, bigots are everywhere. They just don’t know they’re bigots. Real bigots almost never do. In today’s climate of politically correct speech codes and enforced censorship—by the biggest global corporations, no less— honest conversations about almost any controversial topic are tightly controlled.  Meanwhile, The New Media Oligarchs attempt to control free thought, by controlling language, all under the guise of goodwill.

Should we expect more from well-meaning fascists? I don’t think so.

Here’s why this is dumb. Gillette is a privately owned company, whose sole purpose is to provide a better product at a better price for consumers. No doubt, better than a fair share of their market is men. So common sense—which is increasingly uncommon—means, they should just shut up and sell their wares for the sake of their shareholders, who make Gillette a viable economic entity that creates jobs, healthcare, a comfortable life, as well a comfortable retirement, for very real people.

This last sentence will, like some of my previous sentences, elicit outrage. “Viable economic entity!!? That sounds like something a Republican might say! Everyone I know and associate with, knows that Republicans are woman-hating bigots!” so say The New Bigots who don’t know they’re the real bigots. Because self-inflicted ignorance is a sure cover for bigots everywhere, especially, the well-intended kind.

You see, “Profit,” is the lifeblood of every business. Think of millionaire rappers, rapping about shooting “N*ggas, while slapping Bitches and Ho’s.” You don’t think those mink-lined Cadillacs comes cheap, do you? Or, make possible those parties at South Beach mansions with big bootied women dancing in virtually non-existent bikinis? But that’s not sexist and misogyny. Right?

“Shh. That’s different.” said The New Bigots. “We can’t hold all people to the same standard. That would be racist! Remember, there was this thing called slavery. Plus, your statement about “Mink-lined Cadillacs, smacks of racism!” The New Bigots offer with a straight face. I can only shake my head and wonder.

If anyone wanted to take the time to push through the propaganda and “Selective facts,” the truth is out there, in all its messy complexity. But complexity is the enemy of The Well-intended Bigots, and that’s the real problem.

Apparently, however, Gillette couldn’t help but shoot itself in the foot. Because working feverishly to destroy your own business, to satisfy the Cancer that is political correctness—which is almost never correct, by the way—is worth the social acceptance of The Well-intended Bigots, who have more money, buy more products, and are the target audience for big-money corporate advertisers. And, let’s not forget, a high-priced lawsuit is the favored tool of The Well-intended bigots. That—and the attention of The New Media tech giants—all of whom are well-trained in the art of The New Bigotry.

The truth is simple enough, most men aren’t bullies or woman abusers. They’re not violent. They’re not racists. They’re not rich. Never owned slaves, since only about 2% of the American population owned slaves. They’re none of those things unless you redefine language while manipulating statistics to create a false impression of what “Most” men do. This reduction of all members of a group, to a select stereotype, is the hallmark of The Well-intended Bigot.

There are about 170 million men in the U.S… Nearly 4 billion men in the whole damned world. So manipulating numbers, even very big numbers, in an effort to create a false impression, is simple enough.

For the rest, you just have to push past your bigotry and work a bit to understand what these things really mean. But well-meaning bigots aren’t prone to work that hard. It’s just easier to hate and scream, loud and long. That’s good enough. I guess we should expect no more from The Well-intended Bigot, which is the worst kind of bigot. Such is the nature of The New Bigotry. Same as the old, just pull aside the rhetoric, and the wolves teeth will be plain enough.
